If you have already written a book manuscript, it's a smart idea to have a fresh "pair of eyes" edit it before you send it out to agents or publishers, or self-publish it in print or as an e-book. Even if you have already proof-read your document numerous times, there may still be tactical or contextual errors you've overlooked.

I provide several levels of book editing services (see complete fee schedule here). :

» Copy Editing
Copy editing corrects errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar and imposes industry-standard manuscript style formatting (Chicago Manual of Style). Appropriate for your manuscript after your first or subsequent drafts but before your print galleys have been created by your publisher.

» Line Editing
Includes the Copy Editing level of service, PLUS suggestions to improve word choices, syntax, flow and light structural changes.

» Content/Developmental Editing
Includes the Copy and Line Editing levels of service, PLUS ensure general accuracy and consistency of content, analyze context and flow, and perform extensive rewriting as needed.

» Book "Doctoring" (a.k.a. Major Rewriting)
Includes full editing as described above, but where extensive rewriting is needed as well.


To determine which level of editing service is appropriate for your book, I will require you to send me at least two chapters of your book so that I can analyze them and determine how much work will be needed. I will then provide you with an estimate for the project based on the word count of the entire manuscript; however, the final cost will be based on either the word count of the original OR the edited manuscript, whichever is the GREATER.

Turnaround times for most projects are between 2-4 weeks depending on the level of editing and size of the manuscript. (A rush rate of 50% will apply if a turnaround time of less than 2 weeks is required.)

Before you send that important article to your publisher or editor (or to your clients or to publish on your web site), it's a smart idea to hire a second set of eyes. I am also available to edit your articles, your web site copy and even your blog posts. Prices for article editing are based on the condition of the original article, and how much time and effort I feel it will take to meet your requirements and deadlines.
